Miko Boutique at AFW

Check out Kay Downing's fashion label

Get yourself along to Spitalfields Market this week for Alternative Fashion Week's lunchtime shows and Fashion Market where, amongst the designer stalls, you'll find Miko Boutique. Established just over a year ago by Kay Downing- an Embroidery graduate from Darlington who used to design greetings cards - Miko is all about fun, affordable accessories and T-shirts. "I do everything myself" says Kay, "and the good thing is I love everything I make, so I figure if something doesn't sell, I can keep it!". So far, this hasn't been a problem. Miko Boutique's sets of girly slogan badges (£6-£9), handmade ribbons and fabric bracelets (£6), and plastic cuffs (£5) featuring Kay's own holidays snaps are selling well. The range also includes cute vest T-shirts (£18) and crew neck T-shirts (£20) and Kay is hoping to expand the range over the next few months from her HQ in Surbition. "Yes, The Good Life! Last year, we grew carrots and lettuce, but we didn't get many, hardly a plateful." This year it's flowers and herbs - photos of which could appear in the next collection.
