The Machine

Mario Sorrenti's book, The Machine, documents a night in his brother Davide's life. Davide, also a well-known photographer, died in 1997 aged 21 from drug abuse and complications brought on by a genetic blood disorder, Cooley's Anemia (which prevents the blood from producing normal red cells). Every night he had to be hooked up to a drug administrator which became known as "the machine". After his death, a website was set up in Davide's memory selling photos by top lensmen including Juergen Teller with proceeds benefiting the Cooley's Anemia Foundation in the US.
