On the street

In its exhibition, Open City: Street Photographs since 1950, Oxford's Museum of Modern Art will chart the development of the street photograph. The street has long been a rich, varied source of subject matter for photographers and the show will feature over 100 works by 19 international artists. Representing the 50s and the 60s, Open City will feature "raw, edgy and sometimes off-balance" photographs taken by the likes of Robert Frank, Garry Winogrand and William Klein. Bringing street photography up-to-date will be Beat Streuli's newly commissioned images of anonymous passers-by in metropolitan settings and photos by Turner Prize 2000 winner, Wolfgang Tillsman.
