Bias styleWith her innovative cutting and draping skills, Madeleine Vionnet is recognised as one of the most important couturiers of the last century. Credited with perfecting the now ubiquitous bias cutting technique, Vionnet has been an inspiration to contemporary designers such as John Galliano, Azzedine Alaia and Issey Miyake. An exhibition at the Judith Clark Costume Gallery shows 15 of Vionnet's dresses, including a black satin wrapped tango dress from 1917 and a sculpted black day-dress from 1935, as well as her signature logo packaging and unusual thumb-print labels.
