Nike says 'no'Nike's online 'iD' service offering US residents the opportunity to "make their mark" on Nike gear has backfired. In January, Jonah Perreti's order for shoes with the word 'SWEATSHOP' on was accepted online. Then Nike emailed saying this was unacceptable, he protested and was told that 'SWEATSHOP' is "inappropriate slang". Perreti protested again and now his email correspondence with Nike - including his request to instead receive a "snapshot of the 10-year-old Vietnamese girl who makes my shoes?" has been posted on the web. The Nike website has now been configured to automatically reject requests for 'sweatshop' and 'child labor' customisations. |
