Pioneering designersThe Barbican's exhibition, 'Robin & Lucienne Day: Pioneers of Contemporary Design' (from February 8 to April 16) will bring together the work of the renowned husband and wife duo. Considered to be two of the most important post-war designers in their respective areas, Robin and Lucienne worked together as well as independently after their marriage in 1942. Famous for his 60s and 70s tubular steel and moulded plastic stacking chairs, Robin's ground-breaking design is still used today. Although best known for her furnishing fabrics combining botanical and abstract prints, Lucienne's dress fabrics, wallpapers, carpets and ceramics will also be displayed. |
