On iceSomehow, skating has become trendy. Robbie Williams skated in his 'She's the One' video, Torvill and Dean's smouldering on ice routine blasted Ravel's 'Bolero' into the charts in the early 80s and recent advertising campaigns for John Smedley and The Gap have featured ice skaters. Now it's the public's turn for some skating action as a temporary ice rink opens on 14th December in the courtyard of Somerset House (The Strand, London WC2, £6 per hour, from 11am to 10pm until 6th January). The outdoor rink can accommodate up to 200 skaters at once so room for triple axles may be somewhat limited. |
