Fast lane shoppingShoppers who frequent Oxford Street's indispensable chain stores are delighted to hear of a possible pedestrian fast lane - but the campaign might not be what it seems. Newspapers - including 'The Times' and 'The Sun' - have all featured the proposed idea to convert the famous shopping street's pavements into two-lane highways. Called 'Operation Tugboat', the plans for dividing the pavement into two lanes - one for tourists, slow shoppers and push-chairs, the other for faster walkers - have received mixed opinions. But suspicions are rising that the campaign organised by Tugboat - which is actually an advertising agency - is really a publicity stunt. |
