Beauty and the East Although fashion and beauty has borrowed heavily from the East in the past, Asian models on catwalks and in adverts are still a rare sight. 'Maya', a new glossy magazine launched this month, hopes to buck this trend by covering a mix of high fashion and articles featuring Asian celebs, models and designers. Aimed at second and third generation British Asians and Western readers, 'Maya' - in the words of Editor Sunaina Sikand - "celebrates the best of Asian culture and tradition". Features in the first issue (available now) include interviews with make-up artist Ruby Hammer, hairdresser Lee Din and 'Vogue' photographer Sudhir Pithwa, plus a look at new fashion designers in Pakistan and the UK.
