Respecting furDespite its negative associations, look no further than the latest advertising campaign for a glitz'n'glam fashion house to see that fur is still en vogue. In the particular ad, a fox fur is draped over the model's shoulder, but "When it comes to fur, where do you stand?". The question, asked by Respect for Animals, is on its new posters launching nationwide on 1st December. Mark Glover, Campaign Director of Respect for Animals - which is dedicated to campaigning for the abolition of the fur trade - says: "The campaign is designed to remind people that fur is cruel and to make anyone considering buying fur, in any form, think again." And in what is a step closer to outlawing fur farming in England and Wales, the Third Reading of the Fur Farming (Prohibition) Bill was heard in the House of Lords on 13th November and no amendments were made. The bill now has to go back to the House of Commons for final approval. |
