Futura artWhether through his 70s and 80s graffiti paintings or his 90s album graphics for London record label MoWax, the New York artist known as Futura 2000 has brought the language of hip-hop and the street to a global audience for 30 years. His first book, the aptly named 'Futura' (Booth Clibborn Editions, £30, available from 22nd November) is a cross between a confessional, a photo-album and an archive of his work. A well-respected member of the global street-art community, Futura 2000 was central to the mid-80s New York graffiti movement and his exhibitions have toured Europe, Japan, Australia and the US. As well as creating record cover art, Futura 2000 has also turned his hand to designing clothing for labels including Agnes B, Bathing Ape and Project Dragon. |
