Screen petsWhile fashion is having a full on 80s revival, another 80s throwback - the executive chrome'n'black desktop toy - is moving into the 21st century. The ICA has just launched an interactive website which includes a 'Projects' section allowing you to construct an on-screen web toy. Play with the so-called 'sodaconstructor' and you can animate and edit "a two-dimensional model made out of masses and springs". The springs can then "be controlled by a wave to make pulsing muscles" so your little on-screen pet can bounce, roll, walk about or defy gravity. To get the hang of it, there are some ready made models to play with, alternatively jump right in and build your own version. If you want to show off your finished handiwork you can even email your toy to the site and it may be selected as 'Model of the Week'. |
