Burberry's legal battlesBurberry is famously over-protective of its distinctive house check and has been issuing legal threats to sue other manufacturers who use it. But now there's a new twist to the tartan tale with a French textiles company, Deveaux, claiming that it invented the check in 1900. Deveaux's clients who have used the distinctive fabric to make garments have been threatened by Burberry with legal action. In a counter attack Deveaux bosses informed Burberry of their prior claim to the check, which is the same as the must-have British label's. Burberry, however, is allegedly not worried by Deveaux's claim and now fashion watchers are waiting to see if the French textiles company will sue. |
