Objects of desireTyler Brûlé, style warrior and Editorial Director of 'Wallpaper*', liked the teak monkey he chanced upon in a Copenhagen shop so much that the mag's office is now home to 50 of them in various sizes and "naughty poses". And one of them will reside in London's Design Museum from 13th October to 19th November. Each year the Conran Foundation gives £30,000 to a 'design-aware' individual for them to acquire a unique record of 20th and 21st century design for the museum. Past recipients include telly hostess Carol Voderman, writer Alice Rawsthorn and gardener Dan Pearson and the only rules are that the individuals must choose items they would live with and that are currently in production. Tyler is the latest in the line and his "things one should never be without" include an in-flight holdall from Richard James, Puma's California sneaker, Danish industrial designer Kay Bojesen's monkey, sky blue underwear from Calida and a black bike by Kronan. Visit the Design Museum's website for the chance to win one of five teak pets all of your own. |
