Boring USAPhotographer Martin Parr's 1999 book 'Boring Postcards' was filled with 160 of the dullest - but at the same time most fascinating and funny - postcards of 50s, 60s and 70s Britain. Now Parr has turned his attention to the States, with an equally riveting collection of 160 American postcards in 'Boring Postcards USA' (Phaidon, £14.95, available mid-October). A photographic journey around the land of opportunity, the book will take you to places and sights not included in tourist handbooks while providing not only a great deal of amusement but showing how America has changed. Highlights include 'a field' or the 'Site of Proposed Larger Taconite Plant', a red rug or to be exact 'The colourful rug near the entrance of the national offices of the American Baptist Churches' and some trailers at 'Sunset Travel Trailer Park'. |
