Chain mail store First London, then Manchester - now Birmingham. Selfridges is gearing up to open another store. Its doors won't open until autumn 2003, but this addition to the Bull Ring area will give 'chain store' new meaning - the building will be wrapped in a chain-mail style skin of coloured discs. The architects, Future Systems, who've also designed stores for Comme des Garcons, were inspired by designer Paco Rabanne. Paco began designing his futuristic, chain-mail dresses back in the 60s. The fluid and organic shape of this 21st century Selfridges will respond to the natural curves of the surrounding streets.
