New Knitting arrives

Forget knit one, purl one. The New Knitting exhibition, as opposed to the Old Knitting of granny in her rocker making socks, features exhilarating examples of how exciting wool can be. Knitting has a reputation of being a poor relation to other types of fashion, but over the last few years a number of designers have challenged this - Julien MacDonald, Vivienne Westwood and Issey Miyake, to name but three. This exhibition celebrates the creativity that's bubbling away in knitwear land - highlights include Marcia Windebank's resin coated knitted bowls, Julien MacDonald's nylon handknitted dress dripping with crystals and Rebecca Earley's photoprinted scarves. The New Knitting, (until 7 April) at Fashion Space Gallery, London College of Fashion, 20 John Princes Street, London W1, enquiries 020 7514 7000.
