Oxford goes WeegeeStarting from April 2nd, The Museum of Modern Art in Oxford is holding the UK's first major retrospective of US photographer Weegee's work. His name may not be familiar but his photos more than likely will be - George Michael used one of his Coney Island photographs for the cover of 'Listen Without Prejudice'. Moma's exhibition will feature over 200 of Weegee's photos taken during the 30s, 40s and 50s. Famed as a 'street' photographer, Weegee snapped people where he found them - asleep, at work, at parties, at scenes of crime - capturing city life. It's hard to believe that in the early days he was paid $5 per shot. Find the Museum of Modern Art at 30 Pembroke Street, Oxford OX1 1BP. For further enquiries call 01865 722733. |
