Satellites of Fashion

Touring exhibition Satellites of Fashion, touches down for the last time in Halifax next month. Celebrating and highlighting the fusion of fashion and craft, it incorporates the best of British hat, handbag and shoe creators - from established names to up-start art school graduates. Accessories or 'satellites of fashion' enjoy many personas - theatrical, utilitarian, classic or cutting edge and this exhibition reveals connections between commercially driven fashion and the individualism of craft. It also explores codes and messages, both sexual and social, hidden within accessories. The work of style leaders - Philip Treacy, Dai Rees and Patrick Cox - sit alongside young, hip accessory makers thrusting the boundaries of craft and fashion that bit further through the use of innovative materials. An exhibition that captures creativity and ingenuity at its British best. Satellites of Fashion, 5 February - 2 April 2000, Bankfield Museum, Ackroyd Park, Boothtown Road, Halifax, West Yorkshire, enquiries 01422 354 823.
