Westminster School's sports pavilion overlooks an enormous playing field slap bang in the middle of Vincent's Square, SW1. Tonight, it's been given over to 32-year-old Katie Walker, a former boarder at the private school, who is launching her own fashion label for female footie fans. Those who are interested in this new line of clothing and had been playing cheeky bingo or tidying their houses, rushed off in droves to attend this event. Outside there's a mixture of fashion, football and financial folk queuing up for hot dogs and burgers. Inside there's bottled beer, vodka, a bit of a retro disco and two changing rooms where the first season's collections are on display. Turn right for Chelsea, turn left for Arsenal. Arsenal The colours red, white and black hit you in the face and all the walls scream the name of the team. A black vest T-shirt with heavy red embroidered letters saying 'I Love Arsenal' three times across the body (so it reads 'I Love Arse' from some angles). Short sleeved T-shirt dresses that go just below the knee and have a black motif of two footballers in action. Huge, thick, scarves that mimic the classic Arsenal scarf but with the addition of cashmere and luxurious style. Cashmere jumpers with 'I Love Arsenal' emblazoned on one side and then 'Mary Loves Arsenal' on the other. The Arsenal suit is a black and red, the thrusters have funky front pockets cut at an angle and the trouser have red buttons down the legs. Underneath the jacket collar there's another 'Arsenal', you have to pull up your collar to reveal it to the world. Chelsea A thick blue sea of velour and Swarovski crystals. The Chelsea clobber is a lot more Footballers Wives' than Arsenal's. Crew necked short sleeve T-shirt with 'I Love Chelsea Football Club Because My Daddy Does', a velour hoodie and cashmere jumper with C.F.C in crystals sewn onto the on the arm. Slouchy drawstring pants, a blouson jacket with crystal cuffs, stretchy mini skirts and tiny mid-riff tops. The girls modelling the clothes are up for the gig and enjoy prancing and posing. They're excited about the party and reckon that Thierry Henry and some of the other players are coming later. One of them confesses that she's an Arsenal fan, but she's wearing part of Vedette's Chelsea kit because "it's work". Read the interview with designer and label-founder Katie Walker... |
