Swimwear
Swimwear has a reputation for being a little unflattering, but new developments in both design and fit mean that it's now much easier to find something that's right for you. Just like clothing, it's important to choose swimwear which complements your body shape and accentuates parts you like whilst disguising parts you don't. If you're slim with a small chest, go for something which has a halter neck or try a triangle bikini. Those with fuller busts should opt for swimwear which offers maximum support such as Speedo's Bioform range which includes a swimming costume and a bikini that offer just as much support as Bioform underwear. If you have a typically English pear-shape - heavier on the bottom - then try sporting a costume which has very wide straps as this can draw some attention away from your lower half.
Choosing the right colour is also essential if you want to flatter your natural skin tone. You may think that you look like Pamela Anderson in a red swimming costume, but if you're very fair and have a tendency to go pink when you're under the sun then the shade of the costume will only add to the beetroot effect. Instead, opt for a colour like black or a dark olive green which will contrast much better. The same rule applies if you have a yellowish complexion - avoid browns, yellow and oranges and instead go for blues. If you're naturally dark skinned, then you're fairly lucky because most colours will suit you, although if you decide to opt for a very light costume or bikini you should take note of how transparent the garment is when in water.
Before buying swimwear, make sure to try it on first. Although changing rooms aren't always the greatest place to take a gander at yourself, it's worth checking how garments fit. Have a good wiggle around, bend over, squat and stretch to make sure that it fits you properly rather than finding out that it doesn't when you dive into a pool.
