Beachwear
Not everybody on holiday wants to parade around in just their skimpy swimwear all of the time, but it's also a bad idea to pack your entire wardrobe. The solution is to carefully select a capsule collection of beachwear which can be worn all day and then glammed up a little on an evening if you're hitting the tiles. Stick to garments made from light fabrics like cotton or linen and you can't really go wrong as they can be rolled up tightly to avoid serious creases and consequently save lots of space in your suitcase.
It's also a good idea to have garments which can be whipped off easily for obvious reasons. Sarongs are great because they can be worn over a bikini to the beach and you can also team them up with a smarter top for the evening. A good cotton shirt is also useful as you can wear it whilst travelling without looking like a hill billy and then tie it at the front and match it up with denim shorts, hotpants or a short skirt when you're out and about.
In trend terms, patterns and prints are very popular for summer so keep an eye out for items that will make an impact instead of opting for the usual pastel basics. Look out for light, airy items in camo, gingham, candy stripes, toile de joy or monochrome prints. Although one-shoulder tops are still considered to be cool, it's probably best not to wear one in the sun as you may be left with a nasty tan line. Instead, opt for shoulderless or soft gypsy-style tops which can be worn both on and off the shoulders.
Packing a fabric spray is also recommended because they can refresh clothes during your holiday and give them that 'just washed' smell. If you're the messy type, it might also be worth packing a small bottle of stain remover, just in case.
