Label Profile: Ruby Two Shoes.

The idea is to build up a core range and then refine it. There's talk of experimenting with plastic coated material which would be waterproof but light. "We don't really want to be restricted by seasons," says Rachel, "because I mean, the way we dress anyway, you put a coat on, it doesn't really matter what weather it is, it's layers." Anna Marie laughs: "Our friend Jo went out this morning in the pouring rain in flip flops with a poncho on."

Anna Marie has been main impetus behind the clothing. "During my first year at university I struggled with pattern-cutting but then it just comes to you after doing it so much." Anna starts with hand-drawn illustrations and creates her technical flats on the computer. Is she good at maths? "No I got an F in my GCSE!" she admits and a lot of the work is done my feel and intuition.

"If you do things by eye it tend to work out better than the maths because not everyone's proportions are the same," says Rachel. "If you can look at a block that is technically a 12, someone might have bigger boobs or smaller arms so you judge it by how you think, give a little give here and there, it tends to come out better."

Currently, they are scouting around for new materials like cushion covers bought form charity shops and Rachel has her eye on some rather nice tablecloths that she has spotted on Roman Road which could end up as bags. Watch out for the RTS website coming soon [rubytwoshoes.com].

RTS is available from Shop Naked, 8 Clements Arcade, The Broadway, Leigh On Sea and from Our Shop, 28 Kingly Court, Carnaby Street, London W1.
