Pierre Cardin couldn't find a belt big enough to accommodate all the notches he's picked up during his 78 years. Whether Monsieur Cardin is turning his hand to haute couture, acting as a Peace Ambassador for UNESCO, designing furniture, opening cultural centres, creating stage clothes (he made The Beatles collarless jacket suits) or running restaurants he's been there, done it, bought the T-shirt - which he most likely designed.
But with over 50 years experience in fashion and design, Italian-born Pierre Cardin still isn't ready for his slippers, cocoa and comfy fireside armchair. "I'm always looking to add to my achievements" he says, "My life is always on the move and my work is my raison d'etre."
And his raison d'etre for being in London recently was to open the 'Sculptures Utilitaires' exhibition at the Design Museum. Showcasing pieces from his recently relaunched futuristic furniture range plus equally sci-fi looking older pieces.» more... |
