LARA BOEING 747
Lara has since created catwalk jewellery for big hitters like Bella Freud, Andrew Groves and Julien Macdonald. When things quietened down, Lara took a job in advertising using her graphics skills. However, she realised very quickly that this wasn't for her and after only three weeks she left the job. Instead, Lara started her own studio producing commercial jewellery with production in mind. In 1997, she won the New Generation Design Award sponsored by Marks & Spencer, which allowed her to exhibit at London Fashion Week, orders started flooding in and she hasn't looked back.
As well as her modernist looking jewellery, Lara's name also stuck in people's minds - due to pronounciation problems, Lara christened herself 'Lara Boeing 747'. However, airplane manufacturer Boeing (which has its own licence for jewellery) cottoned on a few months ago and forced Lara to change her name within the next few months. Come this September, to coincide with Lara's new winter collection the new label will be 'Lara Bohinc 107' - a combination of her family name and the number on her hospital identification tag at birth. As well as introducing her new name, Lara is also going 'global' from 1st September. Building on her Europe, US and Japan markets, Lara's launching her website with online shop.
