Inspired by the novel, Memoirs of a Geisha, Alison Read's collection, Butterflies of the Night, is a fusion of East and West and "touches on lustful fashions from both diverse cultures".Working with a mix of intensely printed floral silks, leather, latex and lace the collection's silk is digitally printed with flowers, inspired by Nick Knight and Irving Penn images. Alison says "My prints are derived from home flowers pressed which are then computer enhanced and designed. The technology gives the prints a real and natural look". The base shade for the collection is golden tinged cream with highlights of rouge noir, salmon and mahogany. While at college, Alison helped develop a website for The Jacksons - who design handbags, shoes and hats - and the company is making the very high shoes decorated with butterflies for her show, to be worn with ankle socks. To compliment the floral prints, Alison's models, who will look very doll-like to convey "the idea of being seen and not heard" will wear massive handmade flower headdresses.

After graduating Alison wants to take a holiday and continue to develop her website, www.ukfashiondesigners.com, a site which will showcase UK design talent. Before that, she is looking forward to her "two minutes of glory" on the catwalk and the self-satisfaction of seeing her eight outfits on the catwalk after four years of hard graft, with her friends and family sharing the moment.
