label profile: feveredDEVIANT
A Scottish/Italian design partnership has fostered feveredDEVIANT, a label bringing cheek and cheer to socialites and crazy Jap kids. Sarah Louise Taylor reports.
It may sound like the politically correct term for a poorly sex offender, but feveredDEVIANT is actually a rather sharp label spreading its vision across the globe, all the way from Scotland. Launched in February 1999 by Scots/Italian design duo Morven Kerr and Piero Landi, 'fevDEV' has already caught the socialite eyes of Jade Jagger and those crazy kids in Japan just can't get enough of its genuine, eccentric charm. It was only a matter of time before the UK caught on and now selective British fashion whores either own an FD 'Champagne & Cocaine' print T, or at least have their names on the waiting list for one.
There is more to this label than quirky captions. Its creators seem to prefer iron prints to irony, but the real beauty of feveredDEVIANT is its respect for disciplined design. The brains behind the label are still only 26, but their collections feature sophisticated tailoring techniques discovered decades before they were born, which may explain part of their increasing success.

Thanks to skills taught to them by Piero's grandfather in Florence, their first collection entitled 'Evil's of Branding' (cattle not clothing) features satin bound seams and hemlines, hand-covered buttons and hand-stitched decorations. Although their debut collection was mostly cut from denim to give it a modern feel, Kerr and Landi have no plans to move into creating with technological fabrics or to spend their time crafting ground-breaking designs. The duo is content with providing unique, beautiful garments which show the designers' dedication and skill.
The label's latest collection also shows meticulous attention to detail and features scoop necks, organza skirts fit for a fairy tale and printed witticisms including their 'Kinky Detention' image, iron burn prints and a foiled 'Vanity' slogan. Unfortunately for the boys though, recent ranges only feature Ts and individual items for men, but the duo fully intends to increase the selection soon. For the more immediate future, fevDEV fans can look forward to a tasty new collection in the early months of 2001. Also in spring, those that fancy covering themselves with something a little more controversial than an 'I hate work' T should keep their eyes out for the new feveredDEVIANT range featuring a 'Let's all fuck fashion' slogan - which is expected to sell as fast as Catherine Zeta Jones' wedding snaps.
