chime charming
Sarah Louise Taylor meets the two brains behind the new label that keeps its inspiration flying and its feet on the ground.
Designing for 'real women' is hardly an innovative concept and usually, the clothes produced aren't so original either. It seems that to many designers perfection is artificially flawless with no room for error. chime is set to alter this perception. To this new label reality is beautiful and fake is fading. It recognises the elegance of dishevelment and the attraction of frailty, not only accepting that we all make mistakes, but celebrating this fact. In the world of chime, accidents happen and the results are stunning.

The label was founded earlier this year by John Boddy, whose impressive background justifies the creative success of chime. The designer maintains a genuine, sometimes astounding sense of modesty even though his CV would probably bring tears to the eyes of most wannabe fashion students.

Back in 1994, Boddy worked as an assistant to Alexander McQueen and helped to produce the unforgettable Highland Rape collection before he'd even completed a design degree. Although Boddy has a strong admiration for McQueen, he's made his own waves in the fashion world since then by claiming both the Smirnoff Fashion Award and the Richard James Excellence in Tailoring Bursery which helped him produce his first class Central St Martins graduate collection in 1997.
