London Men's Fashion Week
The inaugural London Men's Fashion Week took place at the salubrious Cafe Royal on 14-16 July. The twice-yearly London Fashion Week has always focused on womenswear, so designers wishing to show menswear usually opt to include a few men's outfits as an add-on to their main collections. London Men's Fashion Week aims to provide menswear designers with international profile and promote previously unrecognised design talents.
Ken Odimah teamed up with Mitsubishi Mobile Phones for his show entitled 'Steed Meets The Urbane Cowboys'. On Wednesday, Northbrook College's BA Menswear Design course students enjoyed the opportunity to show buyers, prospective employees and journalists the fruits of their three year course. British label Jeffery Green launched their first ever full menswear range for spring/summer 99.
Although the scale of the event is hardly comparable to London Fashion Week (which attracts thousands of visitors and features up to 50 catwalk shows), it's still early days for this new show which looks set to grow into a major event on everyone's fashion calendar.
