Michiko Koshino

Few designers are as passionate about urbanwear as Michiko Koshino. Her catwalk shows are renown for exploring the boundaries of street fashion and this collection doesn't disappoint. The overriding theme marries ethnic influences to urban urges. Although the ethnic/urban blend has been big in streetwear for some time, Koshino draws inspiration from Morocco and nomadic cultures to produce a funky and flamboyant fresh intrepretation of the look. Three-quarter length slash jeans with mammoth turn-ups, exquisite capes in desert shades with head coverings, asymmetric shift dresses with drop waists and men's A-line skirts worn over trousers all combine in this innovative collection. Bravely, Koshino takes a fresh look at the puff-ball skirt and somehow manages to transform this fashion faux-pas into a credible piece of street clobber. Colours include rich and romantic shades of purple, sandy hues and crisp whites. There's no doubt that Koshino's heart is in streetwear and luckily for us, her mind just seems to follow.
