Futures The London Institute's Centre for Fashion Enterprise staged Futures, a catwalk show featuring Chris Lui, Johann Bester and Alistair Carr. The venue was the new City Hall with incredible views overlooking the Thames, Tower Bridge and David Blaine. The Centre has been set-up to assist fashion entrepreneurs develop their business. Chris Liu launched his high-end womenswear label Huan and, as you'd expect the designer who has had eight years design experience and amassed an impressive portfolio, it is a powerful collection with strong commercial leanings. A red flag swooshed along the catwalk held by a model in an electric blue mini cocktail dress with a plunging neckline, there were hipster shorts with piping worn with matching tailored jacket, white swing skirts worn with a waistcoat like halter-neck top, slim skirts that rest on the hips (not quite ra ra but not far off). Huan looks like it has been created with gorgeous long-legged women in mind - all the pieces are glamorous and some are even stunning. Next out was Johann Bester's fourth collection, which he also showed at the National Army Museum earlier in the week. Then came Alistair Carr's debut London Fashion Week collection - Alistair graduated from Central Saint Martin's earlier this year with an MA in womenswear and judging from the audience reaction and the excitement his clothes have already generated, he's a star in the making. The clothes show an eclectic approach - there are sporty, shirt dresses that skim the thigh, a near transparent polka dot dress that oozes sexy librarian attitude, an uncompromisingly oversized bolero jacket and very sexy blue and gold corset. Carr hasn't been in business long, so his sartorial savvy owes as much down to natural talent as experience. |
