Russell Onan Sage is a designer with a special interest in history. His last collection was entitled Russell Is History and his latest draws inspiration from the days of the British Empire when the wearing of fur was restricted according to one's social rank. The catwalk show was held at a theatre with the stage acting as a catwalk and the first models appeared swathed in antique wild animal skins (zebra, tiger and polar bear) combined with dyed cotton. The collection offers a selection of garments featuring deconstructed portraits of fashion designers Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, John Galliano and Julien Macdonald intended to be a comment on the notion of designers as a trophy. Elsewhere in the collection there's a vibrant range of rich pinks (inspired by Victorian England's obsession with hunting pink) and diverse detailing spanning ruching, pleating, ruffles, deconstruction, antique fabrics juxtaposed with modern ones.
