Day One of London Fashion Week and while the city of New York continues its search for survivors, a fashion elite gathers at the Lansdowne Club, Mayfair to view Maria Grachvogel's spring 2002 collection. Maria is a rising star on the international fashion scene and a shrewd business woman who left a career in banking to pursue her fashion dreams. She has just opened her first shop - located on London's swanky Sloane Street and is sponsored by Bloomberg. Her spring collection is entitled Lolita and features an exquisite range of dresses, hot pants, blouses and wispy separates all of which exude glamour. As well as some of her signature, long satin and chiffon party dresses, for spring Maria offers sexy shorts, lacey blouses as well as dresses and skirts with asymmetric hemlines and short handkerchief styles. The colour palette is as soft and gentle as a summer breeze with soft blue, muted mulberry, gentle green and dusty pink. It's a French boudoir look that features corset dresses, rose corsages, bustles and lots of drapery. Necklines are uncompromisingly sexy with a mixture of square and scooped styles. Other highlights include pencil skirts and Joan Crawford-esque blouses.
