You could almost touch the excitement rising in the air as people queued for Hamish Morrow's show. Last season, Morrow's winter collection impressed even the jaded journos and buyers, immediately inscribing his name on the unwritten list of 'designers to watch'. For spring, he presents an eerily white, deconstructed vision of woman. Models walked in sombre silence through a tray of paint which splattered across their white outfits creating instant fashion before our eyes. The show felt like a laboratory experiment or an art happening and although there are identifiable pieces including tunic style jackets, pleated skirts and asymmetric dresses, you get the idea that Morrow has constructed a series of outfits freeform outside the conventional narrative of fashion. Puffballs, concertina pleats, sashes, military shoulder details, ruching and bandages all figure in this headspace but anyone looking for nice and trendy summer holiday clothes should look elsewhere.
