The World's Most Stereotypical Woman is the title of Antonio Ciutto's vision for spring/summer 02. His third off-schedule collection creates stylistic conflicts by reinterpreting stereotypes. It toys with gender issues, role models and cultural icons - all of which are merged into an eclectic yet slightly confused and sloppy range. A tribute to Mary Ann Bevan, who gained fame as the "World's Ugliest Woman" at Edwardian side-shows, the collection features mini dresses and shorts, oversized tops with super-long sleeves, ruched synthetic leather, plunging necklines and lame lace. The colour palette stretches from subdued beige, black and cream to piggy pink and sunshine yellow. Focus is put on broad and instant impact features such as exaggerated ruffles and suspender-style jeans rather than delicate detailing or interesting prints which marked Ciutto's wonderful wit in last season's collection.
