| S/S 2002 : Limited London Fashion Week
London Fashion Week has gone ahead despite the tragic events in New York last Week and although its controlling body, the British Fashion Council, has promised that it will make a substantial contribution to the Red Cross fund for victims, the atmosphere is muted. Many buyers and journalists attending New York Fashion Week which was in full flow when the terrorist attacks occurred, have only just managed to get to London and as well as a reduced attendance at the shows, many people feel that in the light of events, fashion is irrelevant.
Katharine Hamnett's much anticipated return to the catwalks of London has been cancelled along with scheduled shows by Paul Smith, Clements Ribeiro, Burberry, Nicole Farhi and Justin Oh. This Fashion Week also sees the loss of two of London's biggest catwalk talents - Alexander McQueen and Hussein Chalayan. It's Fashion Week, but not as we know it. |
