As you'd expect from the man who made hot clashing colours popular, Matthew Williamson's 'Candy Girls' collection for spring/summer 2001 is a colourful affair. Colours range from pastels in candy stripes to fluorescent pinks, yellows and limes. There are touches of the 80s with string vests, visors and long T-shirts over tight trousers, as well as a military theme. Williamson clearly states 'make love not war' with softened camouflage prints, khaki brightened with sugary colours and ammo belts supplied with vials of aromatherapy oils. A balance is also made between girly and tough with Williamson's yellow and pink creations. Ragged hems and asymmetric lines make this colour combination more reminiscent of The Sex Pistols' 'Never Mind the Bollocks' album cover, than rhubarb and custard.
