Alexander McQueen's collection for spring/summer 2001 is a fantastic mix of utterly unwearable avant-garde pieces and beautifully tailored ready-to-wear. He focuses on distorting the look of traditional suits by draping oversized jackets around the body, merging tailored jackets and trousers into overalls and turning classic double-breasted coats into wrap-around skirts. Slim trousers in subdued shades of light blue and grey are teamed with tone-in-tone shirts and cravats, bias-cut satin dresses are decorated with strings of roses and hard-edged tailored coats are softened with light, flowing ostrich feathers. Silhouettes are masculine yet sexy and plain trousers and pencil skirts are glammed up with exquisite brocade wraps and coats. Highlights of the collection include a top made from a jigsaw puzzle, a model's feather skirt and top being torn apart by stuffed eagles, a skirt made from thousands of mussels and a pompous ball gown in blood red and black feathers.
