Red or Dead
Red Or Dead's Wayne Hemingway is the Bruce Forsyth of British fashion - always on the telly, supplying style quips, tips and catchphrases to the masses. Autumn/winter 99 sees ROD cruising the streets with a brilliant selection of separates that are focused, fun and ever wearable. Chaps check out sleeping bag coats, vibrant blue neoprene sports jackets, huge trousers, distressed knitwear and recycled sheepskin jackets. The ubiquitous military theme is given a guerrilla twist with moss green trousers and Che Guevara berets.
For chicks there are un-ruralistic tweed ensembles, tabard tops, mohair jumpers and crinkle cotton aprons which are worn as skirts, tops and over trousers. Belts are worn as arm bands, on torsos and underneath busts and the look is multi-tiered and jagged - offering a gritty alternative to the cult of minimalism. Colours range from dark brown, black and deepest blue. The collection is entitled 'Freedom (The Fight For) New Neurotic Romanticism' and in true show-stomping style, catwalk antics included 'Big Breakfast' presenters Johnny Vaughan and Kelly Brook, as well as a fat bloke who lifted up his knitted patchwork tunic to reveal 'unique' emblazoned across his belly. A top spectacle and a very groovy collection.
