Michiko Koshino
Wacky, zany and futuristic are key to the clothes of Japanese
designer Michiko Koshino. The latest millennium madness by Koshino, surfaces
as forward looking fabrics and expressive shapes. Inspiration draws from urban
warriors re-invented into the subversive Yen Jeans capsule
collection. Vintage denim as well as PVC are reincarnated into a variety of guises:
Kendo warrior (low cut baggy trousers) and Arab-jeans (gender-benders that
are both skirt and trousers combined). Kimono-style torso wraps are tightly
bound and are teamed with traditional dragon prints.
The confinement continues with wadded coats, padded tunics and quilted
items that cocoon the body. Accessories such as hoods, visors, batons,
facemasks and high spikey heels play on the themes of danger and
protection. Colours are clearly defined. Denim is worn with blues and reds,
padded items are silver and white, whilst chainmail dresses and kinky PVC
numbers are in a palette of gritty greys and raven black.
