Jasper Conran
An enormous 82 piece collection for autumn/winter 99, was presented by Jasper Conran (son of Sir Terence Conran). A stream of slick, sophisticated and extremely wearable clothes, flowed continuously down the runway. With the diffusion range, also stocked in Debenhams, the commercial connection is obvious. This has ensured that the soft tailoring is immaculately made and the satin evening dresses with chiffon underlayers are luxurious. Sheepskin and cashmere pieces add texture and variety to the smoother fabrics (crepe, felted wool and leather) and the monochrome combinations are striking. A number of looks were reminiscent of days gone-by. Audrey Hepburn styling promotes understated simplicity. Moulded pack-backs, white toe-capped boots and hoods harked back to the late 50s interpretation of future fashions; tunic dresses with low-slung belts looked like flapper dresses from the 1920s. Overall the silhouettes are straight and the colours muted (beige, cream, slate grey, black, bronze and olive green).
