Alexandre Herchcovitch
For his first showing at LFW, Alexandre Herchcovitch sticks to his roots with a presentation in the splendid halls of the Brazilian Embassy. His Jewish descendancy clashes wildly with a Brazilian upbringing to meld together a collection that is double-edged. Spanish Flamenco influences make it expressive and sensual, yet at the same time it is repressive and dark; bordering on the sadomasochistic.
Studded belts, leather dresses and rigid white shirts were worn by models with trance-like facial expressions and severe angular wigs. Full skirts have a Dior 'New Look' twist. Black capes and floral prints complete the Spanish theme. Long trains over trousers and grass skirts add another dimension. Menswear contains cross-dressing connotations with skirt/trouser combinations. Colours range from black, blood red and burgundy to gold, beige, yellow and lime green. This collection has some exquisite items engulfed amongst gritty streetwear.
