Saturday

After just a few hours the main themes of London Fashion Week were already obvious: trannies, Chuppa Chups and champagne. Forget the clothes - Saturday's main excitement was provided by six foot trannies tottering outside the Red Or Dead show pushing their glam trollies of lollies about. With more shows than ever being crammed into six days, expect to see models, designers, buyers and journos sporting serious lolly habits by the end of the week. Another Saturday highlight was the second showing by the hugely hyped Matthew Williamson.

Sunday

While normal people are snoozing, having sex or drinking coffee, fashion's most dedicated are up and at 'em at the Natural History Museum. Rumours are rife that after Amanda Wakeley's show featured fox fur pieces yesterday, PETA are planning an anti-fur demonstration oustide the Tomasz Starzewski show on Tuesday. Luckily, Clements Ribeiro avoided fur this season. Despite the long day, faithful followers waited around until 11pm when the Philip Treacy show (scheduled for 9.30pm) finally kicked off.

Monday

Today it became apparent that this season the shows are as much about celeb-spotting as clothes. With many shows being held in the evening an hour or more after the scheduled starting time, there's a universal feeling that the audience is waiting for tardy celebrity guests to get to their seats rather than last-minute dress tweaking. Today's highlights had Owen Gaster running away to the circus, Bella Freud sending everyone to the bar due to an hour-and-a-half delay, and Antonio Berardi hoping his audience took more notice of his clothes than each other.

Today, knitwear designer Julien Macdonald pulled off the greatest publicity stunt of the season by placing a Michael Jackson look-a-like in the front row of his show. Isabella Blow, seen floating about the area with a white fox on her back and a pink lobster on her head, entertained the star with idle banter as cameras flashed all around and models tried desperately to draw attention to the catwalk by flapping their arms at the distracted audience. Pedal pusher trend-setter, Hussein Chalayan also showed today at a venue in the East End of London and quintessential English designer Paul Smith showed his first womenswear collection at a film studio in Chelsea decked out in chintz and china.

Wednesday

Alexander McQueen's show today was all brimstone and fire. After the waterworks of last season can it be too obvious to expect an exploration into earth for next? Whatever the theme, UK fashion's favourite boy appears to be taking things easy. Spotted only a few hours before his own show was due to start in the front row of newcomer, Tristan Webber's debut in Brick Lane. Other showings included a central London 'do' from Seraph, Fabio Piras in the main tents and Maria Grachvogel at The Altantic Bar.

Thursday

The last day of London Fashion Week and it's time for photographers and buyers to collapse into a heap and wait until September's spring/summer shows. 'Vogue' has declared aubergine the colour of the season and everyone has been much relieved by the disappearance of pink. Stilettos are still around and apart from the wedged heeled boots at Tristan Webber, good shoe ideas seem to be lacking. Only one show was scheduled today, and it was crammed full of students and talent-scouts from major brands.
