People Corporation's show was an inspiring mish mash of Velvet Underground meets punk in a bath of Soho sleeze. Today, hordes of people made the cross-town pilgrimage from the Natural History Museum to the Leisure Lounge Club in Holborn to see the label's second collection at London Fashion Week. The audience assembled on rows of wooden school benches around a catwalk which was the nightclub dancefloor. This show had all the verve and nerve that makes London street fashion the envy of the world. It was a speed-freak frenzy with pencil-thin models in slashed, gashed and revealing clothes for both men and women. Necklines were chopped, dresses were butchered and the models sported fake fur stoles and huge furry leg warmers. Highlights include tight mini dresses, luminous pink velvet suits for fellas and tailored wool camel car coats with matching flared trousers for women. The accessories were an ecletic mix of classics (punky dog tooth leather belts contrasted with elegant chain hipster belts) and innovations (footless tights worn with stilettos, furry scarves worn as chokers and a lace stocking mask). If the raunchier pieces (single-sided and breast exposing tops and mini skirts with tails hanging from a half revealed bottom) are too much for buyers, then the tailored coats, suits and tubular dresses with separate sleeves should serve to satisfy.
