Fashion East

Fashion East returns to the catwalk after a season's absence with another group show featuring three selected designers. The Wink Catwalk has been erected within the Eye Eye trade show at the Truman Brewery and despite being an early call, there was a lot of interest in this St Martins three-hander. First up was Ebru Ercon, who first showed at Fashion Week as part of The Grey Area ICA off-schedule show, back in 2000. The collection includes a thigh-length dress with piano key edges, a loose, military-style navy blouson jacket, pale knitted pieces, thigh-length falred skirts and cropped jackets. Most dramatic of all, is a black, floor-sweeping dress with a drop waist and front spilt to the thigh. Australian-born Richard Nicoll then showed a debut collection with street-ready womenswear with a sporty, Tom Boy edge and a 60s influence. There are metallic hooded anoraks, short dresses with purple silk panels. Ruffles are key and feature singly on the hems of skinny trousers and layered on sleeves. There are geometric shapes reminiscent of classic Paco Rabanne, with a Harlesden hard edge. Finally, Alistair Carr pursues a cheerleader/footballer theme: huge hooded tops worn with rolled-up trousers and fitted v-neck T-shirt, knitted sweatshirts and oversized off-the-shoulder knit dresses. A highlight was his white hoodys and metallic blue raincoat.
