Katharine Hamnett
London Fashion Week A/W 2003
Katharine Hamnett has chosen not to show catwalk collections since 1997 and this event (which didn't involve a catwalk) was billed a 'presentation. It was also included in both the official BFC schedule and the unofficial off-schedule one. Entitled Scandal, it was a display of beautifully cut coats, pencil skirts, sexy fitted knitwear, killer frocks and hip hugging trousers. There are leather bomber jackets and silky parkas, off the shoulder jersey tops and flouncey skirts. This is classic clothing, cut to flow and work the body, almost every piece shows a respect and empathy with the women who will wear it. The presentation ended with models including Jodie Kidd rocking with Katharine to the sound of 'I Can't Get No Satisfaction' all wearing the designer's latest political T-shirt Stop War Blair Out with instructions on how to email your MP.
