The fourth and final nothingnothing collection (designer Julian Roberts will be working under his own name in future) draws to a close the label's reign as the most 'out-there' experiment in British fashion. Shown appropriately on the last day of Fashion Week, the collection features archive prints from sponsor Laura Ashley which Roberts' has managed to reinterpret into somewhat stark but eerily modern pieces. Each garment represents a convergence of ideas: pieces of pattern cutting paper, notebook pages, raw seams and wisps of cotton all feature. Some pieces look as if the designer has taken a black pen and scrawled at high speed across the fabric. It's fragmentary, incomplete and mesmerising - especially presented as it was with straight-faced models walking to the bizarre rhythm of the soundscape created by the designer's own musings about Fashion Week.
