Mulligan's vision for winter 2001/2 is a array of sophisticated and funky outfits inspired by the Beatnik era. Think Paris, Audrey Hepburn, coffee bars and bongos and you get the idea. Despite these references, this doesn't look or feel like a retro collection. Pencil skirts are uncompromisingly sexy, belted tweed coats are feminine and stylish, bold, graffiti-esque abstract prints all contribute to the contemporary coolness of this collection. Mulligan has avoided gimmicks and any heavy emphasis on trends to create a range of stunningly simple, beautifully cut clothes than are every bit as desirable as they are wearable. Notable highlights include mulberry draped backless dresses oozing understated glamour, netted dresses with gold spray paint effects, pedal pushers with front slits, tweed blousons and pleated shirts.
