Despite being placed in the schedule just before Alexander McQueen, which robbed Herman of many of his audience, this is a strong first collection at London Fashion Week. Inspired by contemporary art, the Swiss designer's collection uses clever laser-cut latex to stunning effect. Bold, simple shapes including slightly A-line knee-length skirts, leggings and sleeveless tops become something special when artfully slashed, pleated and quilted. Fabric is given texture and a rubber poncho looks as if it's been crocheted, thanks to Herman's slashing technique. Although predominantly snowy white, the colour scheme also encompasses reddy orange, pale pink and mushroom. The arctic theme is accessorised with moonboots and over-sized earmuffs.
