Code named the lageos project, after a satellite orbiting the earth, Nothing Nothing's autumn 2000 is full of references to space and volume. Designer Julian Roberts' collection is built around draping, tucking and layering to create nebulous billowing silhouettes. Using soft flowing materials - silk, chiffon, cotton - his dresses float to make their own forms. Or are teased into mountainous, structured peaks which bounce. Plain simple shift dresses from the back have fluid protrubances in front. A long column dress has a miniature puckered version flowing from one breast. Layer over layer of abstract print chiffon creates varying densities and opacity and mismatched stripes emphasise Roberts' pattern cutting technique. T-shirt-style tops spread out into voluminous minis that seem caught up in knickers and bias cut slim-fitting skirts flair from the thighs with little surprise splashes of contrasting colour at the hem. Roberts uses a colour palette ranging from cool - sky blues, off-whites, ultramarine - to hot pink and orange.
